About this place
Why visit
The Qinhuai River area joins waterways, traditional-style architecture and a busy visitor district around the Confucius Temple. A riverside walk and a boat trip offer different experiences, while nearby streets provide places to pause for food. The most memorable visit may come from a compact sequence rather than an attempt to see all Nanjing after dark.

Before you go
Plan your visit
The Qinhuai visitor area includes distinct streets, bridges and quays. Choose a compact route around the Confucius Temple district. A boat ticket has a specific departure point and route; it is optional alongside a land-based walk.
Check the exact quay and route before booking a boat. Keep transport back to your accommodation in mind when choosing which end of the district to finish in.
Nearby visits and onward travel
Laomendong and Zhonghua Gate can form a broader southern old-city day; the eastern mausoleum area is a different geographic theme.
Getting there & around Nanjing ↗A flexible day idea
A suggested day
Use this day plan as a guide. We can adjust the walking, transport and breaks for your group.
- Start
Old-city context
Explore the Confucius Temple district and its surrounding public streets. Begin with the relationship between the buildings, bridges and water rather than moving only between shops.
- Explore
A seated food break
Pause for Nanjing dishes or selected snacks. If continuing toward Laomendong, allow the actual walking or transfer section instead of assuming every historic street is adjacent.
- Finish
Waterfront evening
Choose a riverside walk or a separately arranged sailing, then finish near a convenient return connection. Protect a calm exit when the district is crowded.
