About this place
Why visit
Water takes on different colours as depth, minerals, woodland and light change from one lake to the next. The protected landscape is best approached through its designated paths and visitor transport, with time to stand still rather than simply move between photo stops. Weather can transform the scene within the same visit.
Details worth noticing
- Clear mountain lakes
- Waterfall terraces
- Forests surrounding the water
Before you go
Plan your visit
The park covers several valley branches. Build the route around the areas operating on your date and the official transport pattern. A lake-and-waterfall day should not depend on walking the whole valley.
Check which valley sections are open before travel. Keep to designated paths and allow for the park’s transport arrangements rather than treating the entire area as a free walking loop.
Nearby visits and onward travel
Long Lake and Five Color Pool belong to a different valley branch from Five Flower Lake. Huanglong is a separate destination and travel day.
Getting there & around Jiuzhaigou ↗A flexible day idea
A suggested day
Use this day plan as a guide. We can adjust the walking, transport and breaks for your group.
- Start
Enter and orient
Start with the visitor transport arrangement in use that day. Choose the upper-valley branch that best fits the available access rather than promising every named lake.
- Explore
Lakes and waterfalls
Make a small group of lakes the main focus, with time for designated boardwalks and a meal break. Add Pearl Shoal or Nuorilang where the actual route fits.
- Finish
A lower-valley finish
Use Shuzheng-area scenes as a possible final section, subject to the day’s transport and access. Return to your accommodation without attaching a long onward journey.
