About this place

Why visit

Green Lake is a place to watch the city use its open spaces: walking, conversation and informal performances can be as interesting as the pavilions. Seasonal plants and visiting birds change the scene, but the underlying pleasure is the relationship between the water and surrounding neighborhoods. It fits naturally into a gentle central-city walk.

Details worth noticing

  • Pavilions and paths
  • Seasonal plants around the water
  • Everyday public life

Before you go

Plan your visit

Green Lake is a central park, distinct from Dianchi Lake. Choose a short waterside loop and rest as needed. Seasonal birds and informal performances may appear, but neither should be promised as an arranged attraction.

Keep a respectful distance from performers and wildlife. Pair the park with nearby streets, and avoid confusing it with Dianchi Lake, a separate part of Kunming.

Nearby visits and onward travel

Wenlin Street is a natural neighborhood partner. Shilin Stone Forest is an out-of-city outing and should have a separate day.

A flexible day idea

A suggested day

Use this day plan as a guide. We can adjust the walking, transport and breaks for your group.

  1. Start

    A park morning

Walk the public paths around the water, noticing pavilions, planting and the city’s everyday routines. Give performers and other park users space.

  2. Explore

    Nearby neighborhood time

Continue to Wenlin Street or another connected central area for a seated meal. Keep the outing gentle after a flight or longer journey.

  3. Finish

    Choose a second city stop

Visit Kunming Old Street after a suitable connection, or return to rest. Dianchi and Western Hills need their own travel block instead of being treated as the park’s far edge.
