At the local table

What to eat in Guangzhou

Build food into the day: a local breakfast, a market snack or a relaxed shared meal can become part of the experience.

Cantonese dim sum 广式早茶点心

Small dishes and tea turn breakfast or lunch into an unhurried shared experience.

Rice noodle rolls 肠粉

Soft steamed rice sheets with fillings and sauce; a practical casual-meal choice.

Claypot rice 煲仔饭

Rice cooked with toppings in a clay pot, often valued for its crisp base.

Cantonese roast meats 烧味

A choice of roast or barbecue meats to share or serve with rice.

Double-boiled soup 炖汤

A slower-cooked soup that provides a quieter contrast to a snack-focused meal.

Sweet dessert soup 糖水

A Cantonese finish to a meal, with choices such as sesame or bean-based sweets.

For allergies or dietary needs, explain the requirement clearly and discuss ingredients with the kitchen. English–Chinese support can help you communicate.

Getting there & around

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) is separate from the major railway stations and the central districts.

Use the exact rail station on the ticket: Guangzhou South, Guangzhou East and Guangzhou Railway Station are not interchangeable.

During major trade-fair periods, arrange the hotel district and transfers around the actual venue as well as sightseeing interests.

Season & daily pace

Cooler months are generally easier for long neighborhood walks. In humid or rainy weather, let indoor meals, museums and shorter street sections structure the day.

Choose your time, then make it yours
